I have always been passionate about food and cooking
My German mother, a great natural cook, encouraged me to experiment with recipes at an early age and long holidays as a child spent in Southern Germany introduced me to a style of cuisine that embraced ingredients, flavours, techniques and styles from Germany, France, Italy, Austria and Hungary.
In 2002 I was awarded a BSc. Food Science. Studying for the degree gave me a good grounding in the complexities of food hygiene and the science of cookery and I combined this with my natural skills and love of cooking to embark upon Teacher Training. I qualified as a Food Technology teacher and taught at the large comprehensive school in Tenterden for eight years.
A brush with cancer forced me to resign from teaching and, following a full recovery, I decided to follow my dreams and establish a food business. Initially I developed and produced a range of chutneys and other products that I sold through Farmers Markets and local shops. I was very proud to have my ‘Tenterden Chutney’ range accepted by the National Trust for sale in their shops at Chartwells, Bateman’s and Sheffield Park.
During recent years the business has naturally evolved into event catering and I have really found my niche! I absolutely love what I do and this is reflected in the service that I provide. Apart from preparing delicious food and giving great service an important objective is for me to ensure that the host of the party can fully relax and enjoy the event.
I’ve also had a spell of working in Italy – preparing lunches and dinners for a group of artists on a Art Masterclass in the Umbrian hills. Who would have thought that Passionate Food would ‘go global’?!
